One of the most beneficial microgreens grown, Black Oil Sunflower shoots pack quite the punch.  Their firm texture and mild sweet flavor make them an easy stand in for lettuce!

  • HEALTH

    Black Oil Sunflower shoot is an immune system booster containing zinc and selenium which help to fight off viruses. This microgreen is high in fiber, magnesium, calcium, Vitamin B-complex, Vitamin E, potassium, iron, and protein. A popular choice among vegans and vegetarians, all this adds up to a microgreen that can support healthy weight loss, improve skin, and aid in the healing of wounds.  Current studies are being conducted to demonstrate the support these microgreen shoots bring to the treatment of cancer and diabetes.

    These shoots are an even green with hints of yellowing.  Sunflower microgreens have a firm texture and a sweetly mild, nutty crunch with minimal bitterness.

  • USE

    These shoots make an excellent stand-in for lettuce in a salad, on a sandwich or wrap.  Try them on toast with avocado, or simply add your favorite olive oil, a squeeze of lemon or lime, a dash of salt and a few shavings of Parmigiano-Reggiano for a quick lunch salad to treat your taste buds.  They are a great secret salad weapon bringing color and texture to your vegetable mix.  Add them to scrambled eggs to boost your fiber and protein and to your shake to bring in sweetness and an extra vitamin punch.  Roasting your shoots in EVOO or Avocado Oil will enhance the nutty flavor you will love.  Remember that in cooking them they will lose a bit of the nutritional value.

  • STORAGE

    To help your shoots get their longest shelf life store your microgreens in a dry, cool place. Wash them just before eating them. Storing them in a resealable bag or container with a lid works well. Add a paper towel if needed to remove water - Do not store them wet.  Your microgreens should store for 7-14 days in the refrigerator.  Many find these greens stay fresh for up to 30 days!
