CANTALOUPE - 2 oz

Just in time for summer, this week our spotlight shines brightly on Cantaloupe, our newest favorite microgreen.

  • HEALTH

Cantaloupe or Cucumis melo var. cantalupensis is full of antioxidants, fiber, and vitamins A, C, E, and K.  This powerful shoot can help improve energy levels, improve mental clarity, promote healthy skin, and aid in digestion with powerful enzymes that support digestion and help regulate blood sugar levels.  Coupled with vitamin C they also contain potassium and carotenoids, such as beta carotene, which can support eye and heart health.  Carotenoids are a pigment that gives fruit and vegetables their bright color, one being beta carotene which is converted to Vitamin A and can act as an antioxidant.  It’s reported that eating one cup of Cantaloup microgreens contains 177% of the daily recommended value of vitamin A – a huge win for vision, immune system function, and skin health.

Please note that while cantaloupe shoots have many potential health benefits, it is essential to consume it as part of a balanced diet and not rely on it as the sole treatment for any medical conditions. Always consult with your primary healthcare professional before making any changes to your diet.

  • TASTE

These tender shoots have a fresh, sweet melon flavor with notes of cucumber.  They add a delicate crunch to enhance the texture of any dish.  This flavor profile can enhance any savory or sweet dish.

  • USE

Cantaloupe makes an excellent stand-in for lettuce in a salad, sandwich, wrap, or smoothie, and is best eaten raw. Try adding them to your next bowl of cottage cheese with its salty profile.  Looking for a sandwich, try turkey, cranberry sauce, and cantaloupe instead of lettuce for a sweet, crunch lift.  And for an elevated after-dinner treat, add these delicate shoots to your next bowl of vanilla bean ice cream.  Thanks to Stacey at Tosche Supply Co. for the great ideas. Do you have a creative way to use them… let us know!

  • STORAGE

To help your shoots get their longest shelf life store your microgreens in a dry, cool place. Wash them just before eating them. Storing them in a resealable bag or container with a lid works well. Add a paper towel if needed to remove water - Do not store them wet. Your microgreens should be stored for 7-14 days in the refrigerator. Many find these greens stay fresh for up to 30 days!
